Jill Seppa – Owner & Stylist
Jill, a Block Island year round resident with a family of 5, sure keeps busy with all things wellness related. She came on board at Koru as the manager and “guru of all things Spa” in 2009 and eventually worked her way into owning Koru in 2014. Last winter, loving the industry so much she attended Paul Mitchell the School Rhode Island to receive her cosmetology certification to support a closer connection with her guests and a more hands on experience to each service. In her education, her team won best all around hair and make-up at the Muse fashion show and she attended Caper 2015, an additional educational experience amongst some of the most accomplished students and platform artists in the industry. Her passion for wellness and all things beauty is evident in her tag line, “be your own kind of beautiful”. During her time away from the spa, she can be found spending time with her family enjoying the natural beauty of the Island.
Nel Barnicoat – Nail Technician
Nel is a Block Island year round resident. She will be fielding the all important, “What’s it like in the winter?”, question all season. She has two little boys which occupy most of her time so we are super thankful she joined our team to offer you her expertise. She was an original member of the Koru Team when we opened in 2007 and is back to offer the ultimate in pampering manicures and pedicures, her tag line seems to be, “It’s all about you!”
Sue – Massage Therapist
Entering her second season at Koru, she is a massage therapist who is dually licensed in cosmetology. She specializes in bodywork, energy healing, herbal therapies & holistic skincare. She has worked in clinical medical settings, private practice and luxury resort spas throughout the Caribbean and US. She’s an herbalist and educator of Ayurveda, holds a bachelor in Integrative Health from SUNY and teaches community classes on wellness and natural health.
Natalie – Front Desk
Natalie is a California native, spending her first summer on Block Island. In the last year she has graduated from the University of Colorado, worked at an advertising agency, and spent four months traveling in South East Asia. She is a food junkie and has a passion for design and DIY projects. This summer she is looking forward to exploring the island and being a part of the Koru Spa team. Other than working at the spa, you might find her at the beach, grilling on the boat or flagging down Aldo’s pastry boat in New Harbor for coffee in the morning.
Virginia – LMT
Virginia is a native of South Kingstown, Rhode Island, located just on the other side of the Ferry. Although this will be her first summer on our staff, she has spent previous summer seasons as part of the Block Island community. Virginia has a friendly, calm, and caring nature. She practices Mindfulness and believes in the importance of taking a deep breath and living fully in the moment. Her interest in the fields of Massage Therapy and Bodywork began as a desire to help bring wellness and peace into the lives of others. She studied Massage Therapy and completed her 700 hours of training at Lincoln Technical Institute in Lincoln, Rhode Island. It was there she explored her passion for massage and came to realize the power of touch. Massage benefits not only the body, but also the mind and soul; bringing awareness to each individually as well as their connection as a whole. She uses all natural, chemical-free products; “If it’s not good for the Earth, it’s not good for your body”. Whether she is helping you to work through a healing process or helping you to relax and revitalize, her goal is for you to leave with a smile!
